Heavy rain returns Thursday, keeping concern for flooding high
The sun will continue to stay tucked behind the clouds for a while longer. Chances for heavy rain return to the forecast Thursday, and will continue through part of the upcoming weekend.
Aside from keeping things gloomy outside, these continued chances for rain will also keep the concern for river and flash flooding high across parts of Texas. Particular areas of concern are the portions of the Hill Country affected by river and lake flooding earlier in the week. Those that live near or along the Llano River, the Colorado River, Lake LBJ, and Lake Buchanan should monitor water levels closely over the coming days.
Wednesday Night: While most of us will head to bed with just some passing drizzle outside, rain chances will be building overnight. By rush hour Thursday morning, expect a high coverage of rain. Until the rain arrives, it will just be a cloudy and cool night, with low temperatures in the low 50s.
Thursday: A good portion of the day Thursday will feature high chances of rain. The rain will be heavy at times, which will irritate already-saturated grounds and swollen rivers. Keep an eye on local creeks, streams, and rivers, as well as low water crossings, as localized flash flooding issues will be possible. Aside from periods of rain on Thursday, expect more cloudy skies and another cool day. Afternoon temperatures will be back in the 50s.
Thursday Night: Passing showers will be possible Thursday night, though coverage of rain will be down from the daytime hours. Skies will stay cloudy and temperatures will remain in the 50s.
Friday: It won’t be as rainy Friday as compared to Thursday, but plenty of showers will still be around. The clouds will stick around, too. Afternoon temperatures will be a touch higher, in the low to mid-60s.
Saturday: Scattered showers continue Saturday. High temperatures will climb a touch, into the mid to upper 60s.
Sunday: The second half of the weekend looks to be our only brief chance to dry off over the next week or so. While shower activity will take a pause, skies will still be mostly cloudy. Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 60s.
LOOKING AHEAD: Keep the rain gear around. We’ll face another round of rain chances next week.
